Jessica Hartman was born in Washington, DC in 1953. She grew up in Europe, but went to college at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. She lived in North and West Africa during the late 70s and early 80s, and returned to Washington in 1982. She re-dedicated herself to her artwork when she moved to Uzès, France in 1999, and now paints and draws full-time. For more details on Jessica's artistic career, click here.
Years of printmaking and etching have given her a taste for contrast and texture effects, as well as a tendency toward smaller formats. The various techniques she uses (oil painting, water color, inks, pastel and pencils) influence and enrich one another. Real landscapes reveal unsuspected intricacies, and a certain dream-like quality emerges.
